Paterson

The 2016 American drama directed by Jim Jarmusch portrays seven days in the life of Paterson (Adam Driver), a bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey, who leads a quiet, routine life. Each day, he wakes up without an alarm, drives his bus while listening to passengers' conversations, writes poetry in his notebook during breaks, walks his English bulldog Marvin after work, and stops by Shades Bar for a beer, engaging in conversations with the owner, Doc (Barry Shabaka Henley), and other patrons. His wife, Laura (Golshifteh Farahani), is a creative and spirited woman who dreams of becoming a country singer and opening a cupcake business; she encourages Paterson to publish his poems. Though he prefers to keep his writings private, he eventually agrees to make copies. The narrative reaches a turning point when Marvin destroys his notebook, leaving Paterson despondent. The following day, he visits the Passaic Falls, where he encounters a Japanese poet (Masatoshi Nagase) who, sensing Paterson's poetic nature, gifts him a new blank notebook, inspiring him to continue writing. Inspired by William Carlos Williams' poem "Paterson," the film delves into themes of everyday poetry, routine life, and the inner world of an individual, highlighting the beauty in mundanity through Jarmusch's minimalist style and Driver's restrained yet expressive performance.​
