This 2009 computer-animated science fiction comedy film, a co-production between Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, follows the adventures of American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker (Dwayne Johnson), who lands on what he believes to be an uninhabited planet. To his surprise, Planet 51 is inhabited by green humanoid aliens living in a society reminiscent of 1950s America, complete with white picket fences, retro cars, and a pervasive fear of alien invaders. Chuck becomes the target of the local military, led by General Grawl (Gary Oldman), and must find a way to return to his spacecraft before its scheduled automatic departure. He receives help from a teenage alien named Lem (Justin Long), who works at the local planetarium, his friend Skiff (Seann William Scott), a sci-fi enthusiast, and Neera (Jessica Biel), the girl Lem has a crush on. Together, they hide Chuck from the authorities, face various challenges, and uncover the true nature of fear and misunderstanding. The film is filled with references to classic science fiction movies, including scenes reminiscent of "E.T." and "2001: A Space Odyssey," and features a character named Rover—a dog-like exploration robot who assists the protagonists in their journey. The story explores themes of friendship, understanding, and overcoming prejudice. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film grossed over $105 million worldwide against a budget of $70 million.
