Poor Things

A 2023 American fantasy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, based on Alasdair Gray's novel of the same name, is a black comedy set in a steampunk aesthetic. The story follows Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman resurrected by the eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Eager to explore the world, Bella embarks on a journey with the slick lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), discovering freedom and emancipation. The film received critical acclaim, particularly for Emma Stone's performance, and garnered several awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress. It also received 11 Academy Award nominations, winning in the categories of Best Actress, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Costume Design.
