A 2023 American fantasy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, based on Alasdair Gray's novel of the same name, is a black comedy set in a steampunk aesthetic. The story follows Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman resurrected by the eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Eager to explore the world, Bella embarks on a journey with the slick lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), discovering freedom and emancipation.
