A British rock band formed in 1970 in London, England, by Freddie Mercury (vocals, keyboards), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar), Queen became one of the most influential and commercially successful bands in music history. Their debut album, "Queen," was released in 1973, but international acclaim came with "Sheer Heart Attack" (1974) and especially "A Night at the Opera" (1975), featuring the epic track "Bohemian Rhapsody," which topped the UK charts for nine weeks and became the third-best-selling single in UK history. The band is renowned for their innovative musical experiments, blending elements of progressive rock, pop, hard rock, and even opera, as well as their theatrical live performances, culminating in their legendary set at the 1985 Live Aid concert, recognized as one of the greatest in rock history. In 1991, Freddie Mercury passed away due to complications from AIDS, after which the band ceased active recording. However, Brian May and Roger Taylor continued performing with various vocalists, including Paul Rodgers and, since 2011, Adam Lambert, with whom they have undertaken several world tours. In 2025, Queen was awarded the Polar Music Prize for their "distinctive and instantly recognizable sound that no one else can emulate," highlighting their contribution to global music culture. With over 300 million albums sold worldwide, Queen remains an icon in the music industry, and their songs like "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions," and "Another One Bites the Dust" continue to resonate in arenas and airwaves to this day.
