Qur'an

The sacred book of Islam, the Qur'an emerged in the 7th century on the Arabian Peninsula and is regarded by Muslims as the literal word of Allah revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Jibril (Gabriel). The text was initially memorized and transmitted orally before being compiled and recorded by the Prophet’s companions shortly after his death. The Qur'an is composed of 114 surahs divided into verses (ayahs) and covers a wide range of topics including faith, morality, worship, family and social norms, legal principles, and the relationship between humans and God. It blends spiritual guidance, legal instruction, and poetic expression, forming the foundation of Islamic civilization and culture. Core themes include monotheism, submission to God, human accountability, Judgment Day, and eternal life. The Qur'an is recited in Arabic and is revered as untranslatable in its full essence, thus translations are often accompanied by interpretive commentary. More than a religious scripture, it is a comprehensive moral and spiritual guide that continues to influence the lives, values, and societies of millions of Muslims around the world.
