The 2008 American war action film is the fourth installment in the series about Vietnam War veteran John Rambo. Sylvester Stallone served as director, co-writer, and lead actor. The plot unfolds 20 years after the events of the previous film. John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) lives reclusively in Thailand, capturing snakes and providing boat services. His peaceful life is disrupted when a group of American missionaries led by Michael Burnett (Paul Schulze) and Sarah Miller (Julie Benz) approaches him, requesting transport to the war-torn Karen state in Myanmar to deliver humanitarian aid. Initially, Rambo declines, deeming the journey too dangerous, but later agrees. Two weeks after their departure, Rambo learns that the missionaries have been captured by Myanmar military forces. Arthur Marsh (Ken Howard), a representative of the missionary organization, hires a group of mercenaries to rescue them and asks Rambo to act as a guide. Alongside mercenaries Lewis (Graham McTavish), School Boy (Matthew Marsden), Diaz (Rey Gallegos), En-Joo (Tim Kang), and Reese (Jake La Botz), Rambo embarks on a perilous journey through the jungle. Witnessing the brutality of the Myanmar soldiers, they decide to assault the military camp where the hostages are held. Thanks to the element of surprise and Rambo's combat skills, they manage to free the missionaries. However, they are pursued by Myanmar troops under Major Tint (Maung Maung Khin). In the final confrontation, Rambo utilizes an anti-aircraft gun to annihilate the enemy soldiers, ensuring his comrades' safety. After the successful rescue, Rambo returns to the United States and visits his family ranch, hinting at a possible reconciliation with his past. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was positively received by audiences for its intense action sequences and the return of the iconic character.
