The 2010 American action film directed by Sylvester Stallone follows a group of elite mercenaries assigned to overthrow the dictator of a fictional South American island nation, only to discover that the real threat comes from a treacherous CIA agent. The main protagonist, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), is the leader of "The Expendables," a team that includes Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), an expert in edged weapons, Yin Yang (Jet Li), a hand-to-hand combat specialist, Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), a heavy weapons expert, Trench Mauser (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Barney’s old rival, and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), a sniper with psychological issues. The team is tasked by the mysterious Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) to eliminate General Garza (David Zayas), the dictator of the island of Vilena, but during a reconnaissance mission, Ross and Christmas discover that the true power behind the regime is ex-CIA agent James Munroe (Eric Roberts) and his ruthless enforcer Paine (Steve Austin). When they meet a local rebel, Sandra (Giselle Itié), their mission turns from a simple operation into a personal war for justice. As the team faces betrayal, deadly combat, and an all-out battle, each member showcases their unique skills in intense firefights, brutal fights, and massive explosions. The film is filled with action-packed sequences and serves as a nostalgic tribute to the classic action films of the '80s and '90s, bringing together legendary stars of the genre in a single explosive project.
