A historical drama TV series based on the novel of the same name. The story is set in early 17th-century Japan during a turbulent period when the Tokugawa clan fights for dominance. English sailor John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) is shipwrecked off the coast of Japan and captured by samurai. However, he soon draws the attention of the powerful daimyō Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who sees the foreigner as a tool to strengthen his position in the struggle for power. Blackthorne must adapt to an unfamiliar culture, learn the language, and navigate the intricate political schemes he is drawn into. Assisting him is Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai), an educated Christian noblewoman serving Toranaga. Amid deadly conspiracies, bloody battles, and the clash of East and West, Blackthorne's journey takes him from a prisoner to a warrior who may shape the fate of Japan.
