The 2024 Irish-Belgian historical drama film directed by Tim Mielants, with a screenplay by Enda Walsh, is based on Claire Keegan's 2021 novella of the same name. Set in 1985 Ireland, the film focuses on the Magdalene Laundries. The protagonist, coal merchant Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy), accidentally discovers a young woman in the shed of the local Magdalene Laundry, prompting him to face a moral dilemma and stand against the local community and authorities. It premiered at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2024, and was released in Ireland and the United Kingdom on November 1, 2024.
