Gangs of New York

The 2002 American historical drama directed by Martin Scorsese is loosely based on Herbert Asbury's book "The Gangs of New York." The film is set in mid-19th century New York City, in the Five Points district, notorious for its crime and violence. The story begins with a bloody clash between the Native Americans, led by William "Bill the Butcher" Cutting (Daniel Day-Lewis), and Irish immigrants, led by "Priest" Vallon (Liam Neeson).
