An American neo-Western crime film released in 2017, directed by Taylor Sheridan. The plot unfolds on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming, where hunter and tracker Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) discovers the body of young Native American woman Natalie Hanson. Young FBI agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen), inexperienced in such conditions, arrives to investigate. Lambert, grieving his own daughter's death, decides to assist Banner in the investigation. Together, they face harsh weather conditions, local hostility, and bureaucratic hurdles. Their investigation leads them to oil rig workers, where they uncover that Natalie and her boyfriend Matt were attacked by Matt's colleagues. A confrontation ensues, resulting in a shootout that leaves many dead, including law enforcement officers. Lambert tracks down one of the perpetrators and offers him a chance for survival by releasing him barefoot into the snowy wilderness, where he succumbs to the cold. The film concludes with Lambert and Natalie's father, Martin Hanson (Gil Birmingham), mourning their lost children, reflecting themes of loss and the pursuit of justice. The film received positive reviews for its screenplay, direction, and performances, particularly those of Renner and Olsen, and was awarded Best Director in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
