The 2024 Chinese comedy film, directed by Peng Damo and Yan Fei, tells the story of Ma Jie, a young man who grows up in poverty, unaware that his family is actually extremely wealthy. In an effort to teach their son the value of hard work and money, his parents create an artificial reality around him, surrounding him with actors playing neighbors and friends. However, when Ma Jie unexpectedly discovers the truth, his life turns upside down, and the family finds itself at the center of a series of comedic and dramatic events. The main roles are played by Shen Teng (Ma Chenggang – the father), Ma Li (Ma Li – the mother), and Shi Pengyuan (Ma Jie). The film blends social satire with light comedy, reminiscent of "The Truman Show" and the Russian film "Son of a Rich," exploring themes of upbringing, wealth, and personal growth.
