A fighting game with platforming elements, developed by HAL Laboratory and released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 console. It is the first game in the Super Smash Bros. series, featuring characters from popular Nintendo franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Pokémon, and Metroid, battling each other on interactive stages. Unlike traditional fighting games, the objective is to knock opponents off the stage rather than deplete their health. The game features 12 playable characters, including unlockable ones, along with a single-player campaign mode and multiplayer mode for up to four players. Super Smash Bros. received positive reviews for its innovative gameplay and became the start of one of Nintendo's most successful franchises.
