Taxi

An American sitcom created by James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, David Davis, and Ed. Weinberger, aired from September 12, 1978, to June 15, 1983, on ABC and NBC. The series focuses on the everyday lives of a group of New York City taxi drivers and their dispatcher. Main characters include Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch), a seasoned and thoughtful driver; Bobby Wheeler (Jeff Conaway), an aspiring actor; Elaine Nardo (Marilu Henner), a single mother working at an art gallery; Tony Banta (Tony Danza), a former boxer; and "Reverend" Jim Ignatowski (Christopher Lloyd), an eccentric former professor. Dispatcher Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito) is known for his abrasive behavior and sarcasm. The series also features mechanic Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman), an immigrant with a unique accent and demeanor. The show received critical acclaim, winning 18 Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Comedy Series.​
