A League of Their Own

The 1993 American sitcom, based on the 1992 film of the same name, follows the Rockford Peaches, an all-female baseball team during World War II. CBS carried the series over two weeks in 1993, between April 10 and 24, and showed two further episodes on August 13, 1993; a total of six episodes were produced, one of which remained unaired. Sam McMurray took the role of Coach Jimmy Dugan, while Dottie Hinson went to Carey Lowell and Kit Keller to Christine Elise. Filling out the roster were Evelyn Gardner (Tracy Nelson), Marla Hooch (Megan Cavanagh), Betty Horn (Tracy Reiner), Mae Mordabito (Wendy Makkena) and Doris Murphy (Katie Rich). Despite featuring some actors from the original film, such as Megan Cavanagh and Tracy Reiner, the series failed to replicate the movie's success and was canceled after one season. Episode plots featured Dottie's return to the team after her husband was called back into service, a game between the girls and Jimmy's former teammates, the team acquiring a chimpanzee as a new mascot, a date between Jimmy and Dottie, the team's participation in a dance marathon, and Jimmy hiring a new shortstop based on her looks. In 2020, Amazon Prime Video ordered a reboot of the series, which premiered in 2022, offering a new interpretation of the story with a focus on issues of race and sexuality.
