Ten Thousand Saints​

A 2015 American drama directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, based on the novel of the same name by Eleanor Henderson. Set in 1987, the story follows sixteen-year-old Jude Keffy-Horn (Asa Butterfield), who lives in Vermont with his adoptive mother Harriet and sister Prudence. His best friend, Teddy, dies from a drug overdose after a New Year's Eve party where he has a sexual encounter with Eliza (Hailee Steinfeld), the daughter of Jude's father's girlfriend. After Teddy's death, Eliza discovers she is pregnant with his child. Jude moves to New York City to live with his biological father Les (Ethan Hawke), a free-spirited hippie who grows and sells marijuana. In New York, Jude reconnects with Johnny (Emile Hirsch), Teddy's half-brother, who is a straight-edge Hare Krishna devotee. Together, Jude, Eliza, and Johnny navigate the complexities of adolescence, forming an unconventional surrogate family as they deal with the consequences of Teddy's death. The film explores themes of teenage pregnancy, addiction, family dynamics, and identity against the backdrop of cultural and social shifts in late 1980s New York City.​
