Bridge of Spies​

A 2015 American historical drama directed in the USA, UK, India, and Germany by Steven Spielberg. The film is based on true events during the Cold War and follows James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks), a New York insurance lawyer tasked with defending arrested Soviet spy Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance) in court. Despite public pressure and threats, Donovan upholds Abel's right to a fair trial, demonstrating a commitment to American legal principles. Later, when American pilot Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) is shot down over the USSR and captured, the CIA enlists Donovan to negotiate a prisoner exchange. Donovan travels to East Berlin, engaging in complex negotiations with KGB and East German officials, aiming not only to exchange Powers for Abel but also to secure the release of American student Frederic Pryor (Will Rogers), arrested in East Germany. The film was critically acclaimed for its direction, screenplay, performances, and historical accuracy, with Mark Rylance winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.​
