Macbeth

The 2015 historical drama, directed by Justin Kurzel, offers a dark and visually striking adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy. The film opens with the funeral of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's child, setting a somber tone. Macbeth (Michael Fassbender), a loyal warrior and Thane of Glamis, receives a prophecy from three witches foretelling his rise to the Scottish throne. Encouraged by his ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth (Marion Cotillard), he murders King Duncan (David Thewlis) and seizes power. However, guilt and paranoia begin to unravel his mind, especially after the murder of his friend Banquo (Paddy Considine) and the attempt on Banquo's son, Fleance. Seeking further guidance, Macbeth consults the witches again, receiving prophecies that bolster his sense of invincibility but lead to his downfall. Meanwhile, Macduff (Sean Harris), upon learning of his family's slaughter, joins forces with Malcolm (Jack Reynor) to overthrow the tyrant. The climactic battle fulfills the witches' prophecy as Macbeth is slain by Macduff, who was not "born of woman" in the traditional sense.
