A 2013 American horror film directed by James Wan. The plot is based on real events from the case files of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The story centers on the Perron family, consisting of parents Roger (Ron Livingston) and Carolyn (Lili Taylor), along with their five daughters: Andrea (Shanley Caswell), Nancy (Hayley McFarland), Christine (Joey King), Cindy (Mackenzie Foy), and April (Kyla Deaver). In 1971, the family moves into an old farmhouse in Rhode Island, where they begin to experience unexplained and terrifying events. Facing escalating paranormal occurrences, Carolyn seeks help from Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren, who agree to investigate. The Warrens discover that the house has a dark history: in the 18th century, a witch named Bathsheba Sherman lived there, sacrificed her child, and cursed all who would dare to live on the land. During the investigation, Lorraine encounters Bathsheba's spirit, which aims to possess the souls of the house's inhabitants. Attempting to assist the Perron family, the Warrens confront dangerous manifestations of evil, including the possession of Carolyn, who tries to harm her children. In the film's climax, Ed performs an exorcism without official church approval and succeeds in expelling Bathsheba's spirit, saving Carolyn and her family. The film concludes with the Warrens returning home, adding a music box from the Perron house to their collection of artifacts, and receiving a message about a new case in Long Island, alluding to the events of the Amityville haunting.
