The Delinquent Season

The 2017 Irish romantic drama, directed by Mark O'Rowe in his feature film directorial debut, tells the story of two married couples from suburban Dublin whose relationships undergo severe tests. Jim (Cillian Murphy) and his wife Danielle (Eva Birthistle) host a dinner for friends — Yvonne (Catherine Walker) and her husband Chris (Andrew Scott). During the dinner, a quarrel erupts between Yvonne and Chris, which continues at home. Some time later, Jim happens to visit Yvonne's house to retrieve a spare key, and they engage in a conversation about work and family life. One night, Yvonne arrives at Jim's house after Chris has shown aggression. Jim learns that Chris's behavior is linked to a terminal brain disease, which he hasn't disclosed to his family. An affair begins between Jim and Yvonne, and they decide to leave their spouses. However, their relationship encounters difficulties as the truth comes to light, forcing them to reassess their decisions and feelings.
