The Lovely Bones​

A 2009 American fantasy drama film directed by Peter Jackson, based on Alice Sebold's novel of the same name. The story follows 14-year-old Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), who lives in Pennsylvania in 1973. After she is murdered by her neighbor George Harvey (Stanley Tucci), Susie finds herself in an intermediate world between life and death. Observing her family and killer from this realm, she attempts to help her loved ones uncover the crime and cope with their loss. Susie's father, Jack Salmon (Mark Wahlberg), becomes obsessed with finding the murderer, while her mother, Abigail (Rachel Weisz), tries to escape the pain by leaving the family. Grandmother Lynn (Susan Sarandon) takes on the responsibility of caring for the household and children. The film explores themes of the afterlife, family, loss, and retribution, blending elements of drama, fantasy, and thriller.​
