A 2005 American science fiction action film and a sequel to The Matrix Reloaded, it was written and directed by the Wachowski brothers and produced by Joel Silver. The film follows the final hours of the war between humans and the machines that have enslaved them, with the fate of the war to be decided by the Chosen One, Neo. The leading roles were played by Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as Monica Bellucci and Lambert Wilson. The Matrix film saga depicts a future in which the reality that exists for most people is actually a brain-in-a-vat simulation, the Matrix, created by intelligent machines to subjugate and pacify the human population, while the heat and electrical activity of their bodies are used by the machines as a source of energy. Drawn into the rebellion against the machines, a hacker named Neo (Thomas A. Anderson in The Matrix) finds himself in a new, frightening real world. He faces a choice: return to a simulation existence, or start a rebellion against the machines, which also involves other people who have freed themselves from the Matrix and made it into reality. Neo chooses to fight.
