"The Outsiders" is a 1990 American drama television series based on the characters from S. E. Hinton's 1967 novel of the same name, serving as a continuation of the 1983 film. Executive produced by the film's director, Francis Ford Coppola, the series is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, focusing on the lives of the three orphaned Curtis brothers: Ponyboy (Jay R. Ferguson), Sodapop (Rodney Harvey), and Darrel "Darry" (Boyd Kestner), as they struggle to stay together as a family following their parents' death. They are part of the "Greasers," a group of working-class teens in constant conflict with the affluent "Socs." Among their friends are Steve Randle (Harold Pruett), Keith "Two-Bit" Matthews (David Arquette), and Tim Shepherd (Robert Rusler). The series also features Sherri "Cherry" Valance (Kim Walker), a member of the "Socs," and Belinda "Scout" Jenkins (Heather McComb), a young girl aspiring to join the "Greasers." The 90-minute pilot episode premiered on Fox on March 25, 1990, drawing 14.1 million viewers and becoming the network's highest-rated drama at the time. However, subsequent episodes failed to maintain the audience, leading to the show's cancellation after one season comprising 13 episodes.
