The Pokrovsky Gate

A 1982 lyrical comedy directed by Mikhail Kozakov, based on the play of the same name by Leonid Zorin. Set in 1950s Moscow, the story follows student Kostik Romin (Oleg Menshikov), who moves into a communal apartment with his refined aunt Margarita Pavlovna (Sofya Pilyavskaya). He becomes a witness and participant in the lives of its eccentric residents, including the charming and adventurous Lev Evgenyevich Kholotov (Anatoly Ravikovich), his ex-wife Lyudmila (Inna Ulyanova), and her current husband Savva Ignatyevich (Viktor Bortsov). The film is filled with subtle humor, satirical glimpses of Soviet life, and a nostalgic atmosphere of a bygone era. Thanks to its vivid characters and memorable dialogues, it remains one of the most beloved Russian comedies.
