Yolki 2

A Russian New Year's comedy film released in 2011, the second installment in the "Yolki" series, created by the Bazelevs company under the production of Timur Bekmambetov. The film consists of several novellas united by the theme of New Year's miracles and human relationships. In the first story, based on real events, civil aviation pilot Grigory Zemlyanikin (Alexey Petrenko) has been coming to Red Square in Moscow every December 31st for forty years, starting from 1971, waiting for his beloved Yulia Snegiryova (Irina Alferova), to whom he once sent a letter of apology. The letter was lost and found only in 2011, after which Yulia decides to meet Grigory, but he must overcome difficulties to make it to the meeting. In another novella, five-year-old girl Nastya, who has never seen her father (Pyotr Fyodorov), writes a letter to Ded Moroz asking to bring him back, believing that this will make their life with her mother better. Another story tells about two lovers—a Russian girl, Alyona, and a Caucasian young man—whose families are against their wedding. Alyona's father, police captain Vladimir Snegiryov (Sergey Bezrukov), locks his daughter in a detention cell, trying to prevent her from eloping with her beloved. Also, the film features a storyline about taxi driver Pashka, serving in the Presidential Regiment, who dreams of meeting singer Vera Brezhneva at Red Square under the chimes, but his letters do not reach her, and he decides to go to her himself. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who highly appreciated the plot, acting, and direction, although some criticized the quality of special effects. With a budget of 170 million rubles, the film was successful at the box office, grossing almost 800 million rubles worldwide. A sequel titled "Yolki 3" was released in 2013.
