A 1971 Soviet comedy film directed by Leonid Gaidai, based on the novel of the same name by Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov. The protagonist, former nobleman Ippolit Matveyevich Vorobyaninov (Anatoly Papanov), learns from his dying mother-in-law that a fortune in diamonds was hidden inside one of twelve chairs from a confiscated furniture set. Teaming up with the charming conman Ostap Bender (Archil Gomiashvili), he embarks on a humorous and adventurous journey across the Soviet Union in search of the treasure. The film is filled with Gaidai’s signature humor, memorable characters, and sharp satire on society.
