Une langue universelle

The 2024 Canadian surrealist comedy-drama directed by Matthew Rankin intertwines three stories set in an alternative version of Winnipeg, where the official languages are Farsi and French. The first story follows a young man named Matthew arriving in Winnipeg to find the city inhabited by Iranians, with familiar places transformed beyond recognition. The second narrative centers on a tour guide leading tourists through unconventional city landmarks, such as road junctions and highways, imbuing them with special significance. The third tale involves a girl who discovers a banknote frozen in ice and, together with her friend, devises ways to retrieve it. The film garnered international acclaim, including the Audience Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and was shortlisted for the Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category.
