Vladimir Vysotsky

Soviet poet, theater and film actor, singer-songwriter (bard), prose writer, and screenwriter, born on January 25, 1938, in Moscow. He began his professional career in 1959 with a cameo role in the film "Female Age-Mates." After graduating from the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1960, he joined the Taganka Theatre, where he performed significant roles such as Hamlet, Galileo, and Khlopusha. As a poet and musician, Vysotsky became known for his songs, which spread through tape recordings, bypassing official censorship. His work covered a wide range of themes, including street life, war stories, satire, and philosophical reflections. Among his well-known songs are "Song About a Friend," "Wolf Hunt," and "Capricious Horses." Despite the lack of official recognition during his lifetime, after his death in 1980, his cultural contributions were acknowledged posthumously: in 1986, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and in 1987, he became a laureate of the USSR State Prize for his role as Zheglov in the film "The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed" and his song performances. Vysotsky left behind a rich legacy, including over 700 songs and poems, as well as significant contributions to theater and cinema.
