Volleyball

Is a team-based sports practice where two teams, usually composed of six players each, aim to send a ball over a net into the opponent's court without letting it touch their own court, with a maximum of three touches to organize an attack. Volleyball was created in 1895 in the United States by William G. Morgan, a physical education instructor at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, as a less contact-intensive and more accessible alternative to basketball. Initially called "mintonette," the game was soon renamed volleyball. The sport gained popularity quickly in America and abroad, particularly after World War I when American soldiers introduced it in Europe. In 1947, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) was founded, and in 1964, volleyball became part of the Olympic Games. The practice has evolved into various formats including indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, and casual park or street games. Volleyball demands quick reflexes, coordination, team synergy, and strategic thinking. It plays a significant role in school and college sports programs and has a strong cultural presence, especially in Eastern Europe, Brazil, Japan, and Italy. It is also one of the most popular sports among women. The practice includes regular training sessions, technical skills development—serves, receptions, blocks, and spikes—and participation in competitions at various levels. Volleyball connects people professionally, recreationally, and socially, offering both physical engagement and communal interaction.
