This is a technical and sporting practice involving the design, construction, and operation of flying models of aircraft, such as airplanes, gliders, helicopters, and rockets, aimed at participating in competitions for speed, distance, flight duration, and precision in performing aerobatic maneuvers. Aeromodelling originated in France in 1900, where the first competitions were held, and in 1905, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) was established, which has overseen this sport through the Commission Internationale d'AéroModélisme (CIAM) since 1923. In 1925, the first World Championship in aeromodelling took place, after which competitions became regular. In the USSR, aeromodelling began to actively develop from the 1920s, and in 1953, it was included in the Unified Sports Classification of the USSR, becoming an equal type of sporting activity. By 1968, Soviet aeromodellers had set 15 world records out of 39 registered by the FAI. The practice includes various disciplines such as free-flight models, control line models, radio-controlled models, and scale models. Modern technologies, including 3D printing and computer modeling, have opened new horizons for creating complex models. Aeromodelling continues to evolve, uniting thousands of enthusiasts worldwide.
