This is an aviation practice where pilots use airplanes as sporting equipment to perform various disciplines, including aerobatics, air rallies, precision landing, and air racing. Aeroplane sport began developing with the first flights by the Wright brothers in 1903, as pilots started demonstrating aircraft control capabilities in various flight modes. In 1913, Russian pilot Pyotr Nesterov performed the first "loop-the-loop," initiating aerobatics. In 1960, under the auspices of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the first World Aerobatic Championships were organized. In the USSR, aeroplane sport became widespread through DOSAAF aero clubs, which conducted mass competitions and pilot training. Modern disciplines include aerobatic competitions, where the complexity and precision of maneuvers are evaluated; air rallies, requiring accurate navigation along a route using a legend and map; precision landing competitions, assessing the accuracy of touchdown on the runway; and air races, such as the Red Bull Air Race, where pilots compete in speed and maneuverability. Aeroplane sport demands high pilot qualification, technical aircraft preparation, and strict adherence to safety regulations.
