Parachuting

This is an aviation practice involving jumps with a parachute from various aircraft or high-altitude objects to achieve a safe landing, encompassing both sporting, military, and rescue aspects. The history of parachuting begins with theoretical designs by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century; however, the first successful parachute jump was performed by Frenchman Louis-Sébastien Lenormand in 1783 from the tower of the Montpellier Observatory. In 1797, André-Jacques Garnerin made the first parachute jump from a hot air balloon, marking a significant advancement in parachuting. In the early 20th century, parachutes began to be used for military purposes, especially during World War I, and in 1912, Captain Albert Berry made the first parachute jump from an airplane. In the USSR, parachuting began to actively develop in the 1930s, thanks to the efforts of Gleb Kotelnikov, the inventor of the backpack parachute. In 1930, the first mass parachute jumps were conducted near Voronezh, initiating the widespread adoption of parachuting in the country. Modern parachuting includes various disciplines such as classic parachuting, acrobatic parachuting, group jumps, and accuracy landing. Parachuting is also utilized in military operations, rescue missions, and for delivering cargo to hard-to-reach areas.
