Helicopter Sport

This is an aviation sport where pilots compete in helicopter handling skills, performing various tasks including precision landing, slalom, cargo transport, and aerobatic maneuvers. Helicopter sport originated in the USSR in 1958, with the first All-Union competitions held in Kaluga to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Komsomol. Teams from the Air Force, DOSAAF, and the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for Aviation Technology participated. In 1959, helicopter sport was incorporated into the Unified All-Union Sports Classification, promoting its further development. Competitions became regular, including USSR championships and international tournaments. In 1971, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) began organizing World Helicopter Championships. The practice demands high precision, coordination, technical expertise, and close cooperation between the pilot and navigator. Modern competitions feature disciplines such as helicopter all-around events, cargo transport, and demonstration flights, captivating audiences with their spectacle and complexity.
