Powered Hang Gliding

This aviation practice involves the use of powered hang gliders—ultralight aircraft with a triangular wing and engine—that enable pilots to fly without the need for elevated launches or external thrust sources. The emergence of powered hang gliding is linked to the development of hang gliding in the 1960s, when engineers and enthusiasts began experimenting with adding engines to hang gliders to enhance their capabilities. In the 1970s, the first designs of powered hang gliders appeared, equipped with tricycle landing gear and engines, allowing takeoff from flat surfaces. These aircraft quickly gained popularity due to their simplicity, accessibility, and ability to fly at low altitudes. In the USSR, powered hang gliding developed in the 1980s, with various models designed for sports and recreational purposes. Modern competitions include disciplines such as precision landing, navigational flights, and speed courses. Powered hang gliding requires pilots to have high concentration, the ability to control the aircraft in various weather conditions, and knowledge of aerodynamics.
