The 2004 American romantic thriller directed by Paul McGuigan is a remake of the 1996 French film "L'Appartement." The plot follows a young successful financier, Matthew (Josh Hartnett), who returns to Chicago after a two-year stay in New York with his fiancée, Rebecca (Jessica Paré). On the eve of an important business trip to China, Matthew notices a woman in a restaurant resembling his former lover, Lisa (Diane Kruger), who mysteriously disappeared two years prior. Obsessed with finding Lisa, Matthew cancels his trip and embarks on a search that leads him to a mysterious woman named Alex (Rose Byrne), who pretends to be Lisa. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Alex, Lisa's friend, has long been in love with Matthew and deliberately hindered their reunion by creating a complex web of lies and deceit. The film explores themes of love, obsession, and betrayal, revealing intricate relationships between characters against the backdrop of a tense and convoluted narrative.
