Wonder Man

A Hollywood comedy set inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Simon Williams goes to auditions and keeps his own powers secret: in this world a clause in the contracts bars superpowered people from working in film. The part he goes after is the lead in a remake of an old picture called Wonder Man, so a superhero is auditioning to play a superhero and has to prove he can carry it. His partner becomes Trevor Slattery, a failed actor who once posed as a terrorist leader and was then kidnapped by a real criminal organisation; the series closes the story he began in Iron Man 3 and continued in Shang-Chi. The satire lands on filmmaking itself: the lofty director Von Kovak is assembled from the traits of several major auteurs, agents haggle, and Joe Pantoliano and Josh Gad appear as versions of themselves. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II carries the lead, Ben Kingsley returns as Slattery, and X Mayo, Arian Moayed, Byron Bowers and Zlatko Burić play alongside them. Filming ran in Los Angeles from April 2023, stopped for the writers' strike and resumed only in 2024, which pushed the release back by more than a year. All eight episodes arrived on Disney+ on 27 January 2026 under the Marvel Spotlight banner, meaning they can be watched without knowing the studio's other projects. Critics received the series well and Abdul-Mateen earned an Emmy nomination. The network ordered a second season in March 2026 and cancelled it that July.
