A turn-based tactical strategy game with resource management elements, developed by MicroProse as a direct sequel to X-COM: UFO Defense. Set in 2040, the game introduces a new threat emerging from the depths of the ocean: aliens awakening after millennia of dormancy. The player once again commands the X-COM organization but now fights an underwater war, researching marine technologies, building ocean-floor bases, and engaging enemies in submerged environments, sunken ships, and underwater laboratories. The gameplay remains true to the original but is significantly more challenging, with an expanded arsenal, more mission types, and tougher enemies. The eerie, unknown atmosphere set this game apart from other strategy titles. X-COM: Terror from the Deep was released on MS-DOS and Windows, becoming one of the most difficult and memorable games in the series.
