"X-Men: Apocalypse" is a 2016 American superhero film directed by Bryan Singer and written by Simon Kinberg, based on Marvel Comics' X-Men characters. Set in 1983, the film follows the ancient and powerful mutant En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), who awakens after millennia and seeks to destroy modern civilization to build a new world in his image. He recruits four mutants as his Horsemen: Ororo Munroe / Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto (Michael Fassbender), enhancing their powers. Meanwhile, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) continues to teach young mutants at his school, including Scott Summers / Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), and Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee). When Apocalypse kidnaps Xavier to transfer his consciousness into Xavier's body and gain telepathic abilities, the X-Men unite to stop the threat. In the climactic battle, Jean Grey unleashes her full power and destroys Apocalypse, saving humanity. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $543.9 million worldwide against a budget of $178 million.
