127 Hours

A 2010 American biographical psychological survival film directed by Danny Boyle. The film is based on the true story of mountaineer Aron Ralston (James Franco), who, in April 2003, embarked on a solo hiking trip in Bluejohn Canyon, Utah. While descending a narrow slot canyon, a boulder shifted and pinned his right hand against the canyon wall, trapping him. Over the next 127 hours, Ralston fought for survival, enduring excruciating pain, thirst, and hallucinations. Realizing that help would not arrive, he made the desperate decision to amputate his own arm with a dull knife to free himself. After his self-rescue, he trekked several miles through the canyon until he encountered hikers who called for help. The film explores themes of human will, survival, and inner strength. It received critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, and particularly for James Franco's outstanding performance. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
