Alita: Battle Angel

A 2019 American cyberpunk film directed by Robert Rodriguez, with a screenplay by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, based on Yukito Kishiro's manga "Battle Angel Alita". Set in the year 2563, 300 years after a catastrophic war known as "The Fall", Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz), a cyber-surgeon in Iron City, discovers the remains of a female cyborg with an intact human brain in a scrapyard. He rebuilds her and names her Alita (Rosa Salazar), after his deceased daughter. Alita has no memory of her past but realizes she possesses exceptional combat skills. She befriends Hugo (Keean Johnson), who dreams of ascending to the sky city of Zalem. After an encounter with criminal cyborgs, Alita decides to become a Hunter-Warrior and enters a Motorball tournament, hoping to win a path to Zalem. As events unfold, she recalls her past as a combat cyborg in the Martian army and confronts powerful adversaries, including Grewishka (Jackie Earle Haley) and Vector (Mahershala Ali), who controls the underworld of Iron City.
