Assassin's Creed

The 2016 American-French science fiction action film, directed by Justin Kurzel, is based on the popular video game series by Ubisoft but features an original storyline that expands the franchise's mythology. The protagonist, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), sentenced to death, is rescued by the Abstergo Corporation, which fakes his execution and brings him to their research facility in Madrid. By delving into the past, Callum acquires the skills of a Master Assassin to confront the Templar Order, who seek the Apple of Eden — an artifact containing the genetic code for free will, which they intend to use to control humanity. Throughout this journey, Callum grapples with internal conflicts, uncovers his family's history, and gradually embraces the ideals of the Assassin Brotherhood. The film also stars Marion Cotillard (Dr. Sophia Rikkin), Jeremy Irons (Alan Rikkin), Brendan Gleeson (Joseph Lynch), Charlotte Rampling (Ellen Kaye), and Michael K. Williams (Moussa). Filming took place in Spain, Malta, and the United Kingdom, with the musical score composed by Jed Kurzel. Despite high expectations and a star-studded cast, the film received predominantly negative reviews from critics, who cited a convoluted plot and underdeveloped characters, although the visual effects and action sequences were praised.
