Bandits

A 2001 American crime comedy-drama directed by Barry Levinson. The film follows two friends and criminals, Joe Blake (Bruce Willis) and Terry Collins (Billy Bob Thornton), who escape from the Oregon State Penitentiary using a cement mixer. After their escape, they embark on a series of bank robberies, aiming to gather enough money to fulfill their dream of opening their own business. Their robbery method, dubbed the "Sleepover Bandits," involves kidnapping a bank manager the night before the heist, spending the night at his home with his family, and then accompanying him to the bank in the morning to collect the money. During their criminal endeavors, they encounter Kate Wheeler (Cate Blanchett), a housewife dissatisfied with her mundane life and marriage. Kate joins the duo, and a complex love triangle develops as both men fall for her. As events unfold, their robberies become increasingly audacious, and the relationships among the characters grow more complicated, leading to a tense and unpredictable climax. The film received mixed reviews from critics; however, the performances of Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett were highly praised, earning them nominations for the Golden Globe Awards in the categories of Best Actor and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, respectively.
