A 2000 American crime comedy directed by Jonathan Lynn. The film follows the life of Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky (Matthew Perry), a good-natured dentist from Montreal whose life spirals into chaos after meeting his new neighbor—Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis), a notorious Chicago hitman hiding from the mafia. Oz, trapped in an unhappy marriage with his wife Sophie (Rosanna Arquette), discovers that Jimmy is on the run from his former mob boss Yanni Gogolak (Kevin Pollak), who wants him dead. Upon learning about Jimmy's past, Sophie convinces Oz to travel to Chicago and reveal Tudeski's whereabouts, hoping to collect a reward. In Chicago, Oz meets with Yanni and his son Frankie (Michael Clarke Duncan), but complications arise when Oz falls for Cynthia (Natasha Henstridge), Jimmy's wife. Returning to Montreal, Oz finds out that his assistant Jill (Amanda Peet) aspires to become a hitwoman and idolizes Jimmy. As events unfold, the characters become entangled in a series of betrayals, deceptions, and unexpected alliances, leading to a tense and comedic climax. The film received mixed reviews from critics but achieved commercial success, grossing over $106 million and spawning a sequel, "The Whole Ten Yards," in 2004.
