A 2012 American drama directed by Paul Weitz, who also wrote the screenplay based on Nick Flynn's memoir "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City". The film follows Nick Flynn (Paul Dano), a young writer working at a homeless shelter in Boston, where he unexpectedly reunites with his estranged father, Jonathan (Robert De Niro), an alcoholic ex-convict who considers himself a master storyteller. Jonathan had abandoned the family years earlier, leaving Nick to be raised by his mother, Jody (Julianne Moore), who later committed suicide, deeply affecting Nick. The reunion with his father triggers a downward spiral for Nick, leading to substance abuse and the deterioration of his relationship with his girlfriend, Denise (Olivia Thirlby). After Jonathan is expelled from the shelter, Nick realizes the need for change, undergoes rehabilitation, and reconciles with Denise. Later, he finds his father sleeping on the street and invites him to stay at his place. During their time together, Jonathan admits that Nick is not responsible for his mother's death and that they are not the same. Nick becomes a teacher, starts a family, and publishes a book of poetry, while Jonathan secures housing through the Section 8 program. The film delves into the complexities of father-son relationships, forgiveness, and personal growth. Despite a limited release and modest box office earnings of $540,152, De Niro's performance received critical acclaim.
