Boris Grebenshchikov

Soviet and Russian musician, poet, and composer, born on November 27, 1953, in Leningrad. In 1972, he co-founded the band Aquarium with Anatoly Gunitsky, which became one of the key acts in the history of Russian rock. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at Leningrad State University and worked at the Institute of Sociology while continuing his musical activities. In 1978, he recorded the acoustic album "All Brothers Are Sisters" with Mike Naumenko. After performing at the Tbilisi Rock Festival in 1980, he was dismissed from his job and expelled from the Komsomol. In 1981, Aquarium recorded the "Blue Album," a significant event in Soviet rock history. In 1982, Grebenshchikov produced the debut album of the band Kino — "45." In 1989, he released the English-language album "Radio Silence" in the USA. In 1990, Aquarium disbanded but was reformed in 1993. In 1997, he received the Triumph Award, in 2002 — the Tsarskoye Selo Art Prize, and in 2003 — the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV class. From 2005 to 2022, he hosted the radio program "Aerostat." In 2014, he released the solo album "Salt," acclaimed by critics as one of his best works. In 2019, he published his own translation of the Bhagavad Gita. In 2023, he initiated the charitable music project Heal The Sky to help children affected by the war in Ukraine. He currently resides in the United Kingdom.
