Captain Phillips

A 2013 American biographical thriller directed by Paul Greengrass and written by Billy Ray, based on Richard Phillips's memoir "A Captain’s Duty," the film depicts the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates. The story centers on Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), who offers himself as a hostage to protect his crew. The pirates, led by Abduwali Muse (Barkhad Abdi), demand ransom and attempt to reach Somalia aboard a lifeboat with Phillips. Tensions escalate among the pirates, while the U.S. Navy, including the destroyer USS Bainbridge and Navy SEALs, devise a rescue plan.
