The 1992 historical adventure film, directed by John Glen, depicts Christopher Columbus's (Georges Corraface) voyage and discovery of America. After being denied funding by Portuguese King John II, Columbus turns to Spanish monarchs King Ferdinand (Tom Selleck) and Queen Isabella (Rachel Ward), who eventually agree to support him. Columbus faces various obstacles, including intrigues from Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada (Marlon Brando) and sabotage by Portuguese agents. Assembling a crew that partially consists of prisoners, he sets sail on three ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. During the voyage, the crew encounters challenges such as doldrums and the threat of mutiny. However, due to Columbus's determination, they reach the Bahamas, mistaking them for India. Released to commemorate the 500th anniversary of America's discovery, the film was not commercially successful, grossing approximately $8 million against a $45 million budget. It received negative reviews from critics, particularly for Marlon Brando's performance, and was nominated for several Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Supporting Actor for Tom Selleck.
