A 1985 American action film directed by Mark L. Lester and written by Steven E. de Souza, it follows Colonel John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a retired leader of an elite special forces unit. When his former comrades are killed and his daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano) is kidnapped by mercenaries led by his former subordinate Bennett (Vernon Wells), Matrix is coerced by exiled dictator Arius (Dan Hedaya) into assassinating the president of Val Verde in exchange for his daughter's safety. Instead, Matrix kills his escort on the plane and escapes, initiating a race against time to rescue Jenny. He teams up with Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong), a flight attendant who becomes his ally, and together they track down Arius's associates, including Sully (David Patrick Kelly) and Cooke (Bill Duke). After gathering intelligence on Jenny's location, Matrix arms himself and infiltrates Arius's island fortress, single-handedly eliminating the enemy forces, killing Arius, and engaging in a final showdown with Bennett, whom he defeats by impaling him with a pipe. The film concludes with Matrix declining to rejoin the military and departing the island with his daughter and Cindy.
