The 1954 American science fiction horror film directed by Jack Arnold follows a group of scientists who venture into the Amazon jungle and encounter an ancient amphibious humanoid creature known as the Gill-man. After discovering a fossil indicating the existence of an unknown species, the expedition, led by ichthyologist Dr. David Reed (Richard Carlson), his colleague Mark Williams (Richard Denning), and their assistant Kay Lawrence (Julie Adams), explores a remote lagoon. There, they find the creature, which exhibits aggression and a fascination with Kay. The creature attacks the team members, kills several, and abducts Kay, taking her to its underwater lair. In the film's climax, the scientists rescue Kay and severely wound the Gill-man, who then disappears into the depths of the lagoon. The film was shot in black-and-white using 3D technology and became a classic of the genre, inspiring two sequels: "Revenge of the Creature" (1955) and "The Creature Walks Among Us" (1956). The creature was portrayed by two actors: Ben Chapman for land scenes and Ricou Browning for underwater sequences. The monster's design, created by Milicent Patrick, significantly influenced subsequent horror and science fiction films, including works by Steven Spielberg and Guillermo del Toro.
