A spin-off of the Dead or Alive fighting game series, developed by Team Ninja and published by Tecmo exclusively for the Xbox in 2003. Unlike the mainline entries, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball focuses on a more relaxed gameplay experience centered around beach volleyball and various mini-games. The game is set on Zack Island, where the female characters of Dead or Alive, including Kasumi, Ayane, Hitomi, Helena, and others, spend their vacation. Players can participate in beach volleyball matches, choosing a partner and competing against other duos, as well as earning in-game currency to purchase swimsuits, accessories, and other items. In addition to volleyball, players can engage in extra activities such as casino games, jet ski races, and photoshoots. One of the game’s standout features was its advanced physics and realistic character animation, made possible by the power of the Xbox hardware. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball received mixed reviews, with praise for its graphics, physics, and relaxing atmosphere, but criticism for its limited gameplay depth. Despite this, the game became a fan favorite and spawned the Xtreme sub-series within the Dead or Alive franchise.
